Horizontal-Vertical Design
The PRO 28T Horizontal/Vertical splitter is designed for easy transition between horizontal and vertical configurations. The horizontal mode is easiest for most splitting tasks. But when you come across an extra big round, you can save yourself a lot strain by simply pulling out a pin, easily rotating the unit into its vertical position, and splitting the log on the ground...no lifting required!
An easy-starting DR 6.6 HP (9.59 ft-lbs gross torque*) engine powers the 2 stage pump (8.8 GPM), generating 3450psi of splitting force. Logs up to 30" in diameter and up to 25" long are no problem. And the PRO 28T's 17-second cycle time makes it one of the fastest hydraulic splitters in its class.
Road-Towable
A 2" ball hitch with safety chains comes standard, allowing you to tow the unit at speeds up to 45 mph on its big 16" tires. The jackstand folds up for transport, locking into place with a simple cotter pin.

Easy Conversion
Switching from horizontal to vertical mode (or vice versa) takes only a few seconds. Just slip out a pin, rotate the unit, and re-insert pin to lock it into position. Lets you split those really big rounds without lifting the log onto the beam.
DR Engine
Easy-starting DR 6.6 HP (9.59 ft-lbs gross torque*) engine powers the hydraulic pump. Warranted for 2 years in residential use (90 days commercial).
Rugged Hydraulics
Hydraulic pump generates 3450 psi in the cylinder (4.5" bore). Steel piston compression seals provide consistent power...year after year.
Easy Towing
A 2" ball hitch comes standard (with safety chains) allowing for road towing at speeds up to 45 mph. Jackstand folds up for transport.
4-Way Wedge
The optional 4-way wedge easily attaches to the standard vertical wedge, allowing you to get 4 logs out of one split.
Cast Iron Beam
Provides rock solid stability in either horizontal or vertical mode without any of the rocking you get with lightweight splitters.

Doing the job well
Purchased this to help deal with a huge number of downed trees from a recent storm. Unable to have home delivery because we are not accessible to a semi-truck, so it was delivered to a parking lot about 8 mi away. Good communication from the shipping company so I was able to meet the delivery without a lot of waiting. Assembly was easy enough, but definitely helps to have a second set of hands. Towed the unit home (45 mph max), and it handled well. As to splitting wood, this tool does a good job. Started up quickly. No trouble splitting fresh oak logs that are 18 inches diameter. One minor complaint is that switching from horizontal to vertical operation is not easy - the carriage tends to stick in the horizontal position, and I have had to use a bar to pry it loose so that it can swing to vertical operation. Works fine in vertical mode (large diameter logs), but it generally isn't worth my while to switch from horizontal mode.
Q.Is the fuel a gas oil mixture, or straight gas?
A.Thank you for your question. This would not have an oil gas mixture. We suggest using non-ethanol fuel.

Q.How much assembly is required after delivery on this log splitter?
A.The Horizontal/Vertical Log Splitters ship in a metal crate with a cardboard box. When you receive the splitter, there is significant assembling involved. It will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and at least one or two helpers to help. You receive complete assembling instructions and our Technical Support is available at toll free 1-888-550-0062 to assist you over the phone if needed.
Assembly required:
install the engine, pump and mount, hoses, I-Beam, tow bar and trailer jack, reservoir and axle, trays, wheels and fenders.

Q.What exactly was done to this unit to constitute a "reconditioned" unit? Also, do all new unit warranties apply to the "reconditioned" unit? Can you provide photos of the particular reconditioned unit I may be buying?

Our slightly used, reconditioned machines are machines returned to us during a customer's DR Hands-On Trial Period. Reconditioned machines are thoroughly inspected, adjusted and cleaned. Any worn parts are replaced and each machine is tested to ensure it runs like new.
All reconditioned machines receive the same standard warranty coverage as a new model plus the Hands-On Trial Period. Unfortunately, the only photo available on our reconditioned units are stock photos. Please be assured reconditioned machines are refurbished to the quality and functionality found in all our new equipment. They are a great alternative to a new machine purchase. ph
