The PRO XL model is our most powerful walk-behind Trimmer Mower, with the muscle to handle your heaviest mowing needs. It features a 10.30 DR engine with overhead valve that will perform reliably year after year. The frame is mounted with extra high 16" wheels for super-easy maneuvering. With a 22" cutting width, 5 adjustable mowing heights (1.5" to 3.5"), and ergonomic handlebars, mowing tall weeds and grasses is a breeze!

The PRO XL has an offset frame design that lets you trim right up against foundations, fence lines and other obstacles with precise control. The front is fortified with a cast aluminum nose plate that protects the machine against damage from collisions.

Trimmer line for a DR walk-behind string trimmer

Super-duty Cutting Cords

All DR Trimmer/Mowers accept super-thick 175 mil cutting cords—the thickest, longest-lasting in the industry (so you spend more time mowing and less time changing cords).

No Wrapping

Unlike most trimmers, the DR wide-body design prevents vegetation from wrapping and tangling around the trimmer head (which tends to stall the engine). Even in tall grass, the DR Trimmer Mower keeps on keeping on.

Assembled in the USA

Assembled in the USA using foreign and domestic parts. Ships direct from our Wisconsin factory.

Patented cord attachment system on a DR walk-behind string trimmer

Patented Cord Attachment System

Cords go on in seconds, no tools required. Choose from 5 different cutting height adjustments (1.5" to 3.5") at the same time you attach your cords. No tools and no extra time required. Set the cutting height low for trimming, or set it high for off-lawn mowing of tall grass and weeds.

DR OHV Engine

This powerful DR engine gives you the power you need to take care of all your trimming needs easily and efficiently and mow thick grass and weeds.

Cast aluminum nose plate and trimmer head on a DR walk-behind string trimmer

Cast Aluminum Nose Plate

The DR Trimmer/Mower's cast aluminum nose plate protects it against damage from collisions. Bumps and scrapes are inevitable when you're working, but you can ensure that they don't damage your machine.

Optional Beaver Blade on a DR walk-behind string trimmer

Optional Beaver Blade for the big stuff

The optional Beaver Blade turns your trimmer into a chainsaw on wheels. Cuts trees up to 3" in diameter quickly and easily. It's the perfect way to take down stands of "weed trees" without bending over or dropping to your knees like you have to with a normal chainsaw.

Optional Quick-Lock Trimmer Head on a DR walk-behind string trimmer

Optional Quick-Lock Trimmer Head

Allows you to change your trimmer cord in just seconds—completely hassle-free! Cord is simply inserted into the head and is anchored in place by the unique gripping mechanism! Perfect for quick cord changes in the field, and for those who often trim dense thickets of weeds.

DuraBlades on a DR walk-behind string trimmer

Optional DuraBlades for 3/8" Thick Brush

With our optional DR DuraBlades you can quickly swap out your cutting cords with metal blades, embedded in a high-tech polymer, that slice through woody material up to 3/8" thick!

    Love My Trimmer

I am an older person and it is not easy to use the single weed eater. My DR trimmer is so easy to use around walls and trees and doesn't wear me out. This is my second and I love the electric start with the gas engine.

    Property Maintenance

Have only used it twice so far and it works very well. I used the blue spiral 175 mil string and the original Instant Cord-Attach System around the buildings. Then I installed the Quick Lock Trimmer head and used the gray serrated 255 mil to trim the edge of the creek that had a dense 3 foot tall weed growth and some cat tail growth intermixed in some areas. At 74+ years old, I was able to handle the Pro XL Trimmer Mower with no issues up n down the hills and in the rough areas as well. A good equipment investment overall for my needs.

    Help on the tree farm

So far so good. This thing does a really nice job keeping the underbrush down. I have fifteen heavily wooded acres. This and my brush hog get the job done. Wish I had the field and brush mower, but can’t yet justify the price tag.

Great addition for my property maintenance!

This is the first walk behind trimmer I have owned and I am very impressed with the build quality and ease of use. What used to take me a long day to do with a hand held weed trimmer now takes about 2 hours with no back fatigue. I had back surgery almost 2 years ago and using a hand held with all the twisting was really aggravating my lower back. This Pro XL with electric start is a breeze to use. I did add the Quick lock power head so even loading line is a snap. I have 14 acres and this is a great addition to my tractor with brush hog and riding mower. Great job DR!

    ProXL is a winner.

Takes down tall grass and weeds that my string trimmers can't handle, and so much faster. Ladies, don't try to push it uphill, just work it sideways on a hill, but Girl Power is enough to get the job done!

Q.I am an existing customer and have a field and brush mower (awesome machine) and a wood chipper (not so awesome and had quality control issues) I'm looking to purchase a DR trimmer mower for my wife because the field and brush mower is too big for her to handle. I've been reading the reviews and based on the negative reviews, I have concerns about the quality control on the assembly of your machines. The most consistent complaints seem to be around inadequately tightened or missing washers/nuts. There are also complaints about the durability of plastic parts. What can you tell me about what steps your company has taken to address these problems?

A.Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns. When we receive reviews they are all manually reviewed and appropriate actions are taken. The concerns you have brought up were addressed with our warehouse and sourcing teams. If you do unfortunately encounter an issue we have customer support available to resolve any issues.
