OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW

Till while you ride, 3-feet wide!

Tow the PREMIER-36T Rototiller behind your ATV, riding mower, or tractor and you'll break ground and turn soil faster and easier than you ever thought possible! The DR does the hard work while you ride in comfort. The PREMIER model has much in common with its larger PRO counterpart, but uses a manual lever-operated depth control, has smaller tires, and 12 tines for churning soil.

Unlike walk-behind tillers, the DR Tow-Behind Tiller doesn't divide its engine power between moving the machine forward and turning the tines. The full power of its overhead valve DR® engine is dedicated to the real task at hand, tilling the soil. Your tow vehicle takes care of the propulsion, and with its weight, actually holds the tiller back to create maximum churn and prevent the tiller from lurching forward as walk-behinds often do.

The result? The DR Tow-Behind Tiller will thoroughly till your garden or landscaped area in a fraction of the time required by any walk-behind tiller. Even better, it is twice as wide as most ordinary tillers and has 12 steel bolo tines for cultivating. That means faster, more thorough tilling, with none of the strain associated with tillers that require brute strength to control them. Instead, you just ride and relax.

Product Summary:

  • Engine: DR® Engine, 11.10 ft-lbs gross torque
  • Tilling Area: 36" wide, up to 7.5" deep (variable)
  • Manual lever allows you to control tilling depth
  • Shock absorbing hitch absorbs jolts for a smoother ride
  • Manual-starting

Warranty:

  • Engine: 2 years residential, 90 days commercial
  • Machine: 2 years residential, 90 days commercial

FEATURES
FEATURES

Manual Depth Control
A simple lever, within easy reach from your tow vehicle, allows you to adjust the tilling depth while you remain seated. Just stop the vehicle, make the adjustment, and resume tilling.

12 Bolo Tines
Forged of tough tempered steel, these tines spin at over 230 rpm to dig up to 7-1/2" deep and mix soil completely. The intricately designed sweeps and curves of each tine minimize the wrapping of vegetation.

Belt-Drive System
Transfers full power from the engine to the tines. Shear pins on the tine shaft are designed to break if the tines hit an immovable object, to protect the engine and engine shaft from damage. (Four extra shear pins are included and they are simple to install. No tools required.)

SMOOTH-TRAK™ Hitch
Our unique hitch absorbs shocks and jolts so that minimal forward motion from the tiller is transmitted to the towing vehicle for smoother and easier operation.

Extra Heavy-Duty Steel Frame
This frame is built to last under punishing conditions. Made of 1-1/2" square tubing and 12-gauge steel. Baked on powder coat finish resists corrosion.

Transport Tires
The tires are resin composite and 9.5" in diameter and 2" wide for easy rolling during transport.

    Works well when it works!

We were very excited about using the Premier 36T to keep our beach volleyball courts soft and tilled for the safety of our players. As a small, youth sports club, this was a huge purchase and cost for us, but one we felt would improve our player's experience. Unfortunately, after just 3 uses (first two weeks we've had it), it's broken down several times and we've had to have mechanics work on it to get it started again. 3 times used. These are supposed to be designed to work on dirt, sand and turf. We have to replace the air filter after each use. There needs to be better engine protection and it should be much more reliable than it's been. Hopefully we will be able to find better solutions to maintaining consistent use and reduce the cost of every use. Again, we've only owned it for 3 weeks now. On a good note, when it does work, it works well an gives us a nice 6 inch turn of our sand courts.

    Issues off the bat

Extremely hard to pull start. Once able to get running the belt caught on something, got roughed up and came off. The alignment of the pulleys appears to be off and the only place to take to service is closed from Hurricane Helene. I am trying to prepare beds for my flower farm and this has made things even harder then they were. I think if it would start easier and the belt was in alignment it would have run great?

    Not well designed

I ordered in June of 2022. Received Feb 2023 due to a back order on parts. It took me several calls to customer service to find out why it was taking so long. I understand parts being back ordered especially on the tail end of the pandemic. I would have appreciated some communication regarding the delay. And the first time I called Cust. Serv, some should have been able to tell me what the delay was. It took 6 calls over 2 months to finally find out. I live in MN so I couldn’t try it out until April. I had it shipped to our hunting property in WI. I drove there and put it together to start tilling our food plot. There was no key in the package so I could not till that weekend. I ordered a key from Amazon, much faster than trying to go through DR customer service. I drove to WI the next weekend and brought the tiller out to the land, hooked it up to my ATV and got ready to till. I started it up and lowered the tines ( I paid $1,000 extra for the remote motorized tine raise and lower). The tines lowered to 2” above the ground. The pivot arms that the wheels are attached to hit the framework and prevent it from lowering enough. Very poor design. I then spent another week looking for an 8” drop hitch to plug into my ATV. The only ones I could find were for pickup trucks and rated for 8,000# so I had to pay $60 for a drop hitch that was way overbuilt for what I needed. Went back to Wi the next weekend and began to till. It was not tilling very good. The engine seemed to be running slow. I found that there was a throttle stop set to ~50%. I moved it to 100%. Then managed to get 3 acres tilled before the end of the day. I still need to install some metal plates or rubber flaps on the back of the tiller as it throws the dirt up behind it and lots of dirt lands on the tiller. Since it throws the dirt out and up behind it it doesn’t till very well. A hinged shroud or flap would keep the dirt in the tine area and pulverize it much better. A very frustrating experience and a very very poor design. If I find another manufacturer that makes an ATV pull behind tiller I will sell this and buy that one. Due to this experience I will not buy any more DR products.

    Works well

Like the tiller it works well the only thing is once you till deep you have to drive up out of the bed on untilled ground to lift the tiller up. It’s very hard to lift the weight of the tiller in the bed.

Product is great really turns up the soil, only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the handle to lower the unit and to turn the tines could be longer. I have a bard time reaching them otherwise I would give it 10 stars!!!!!

PRODUCT Q&A
PRODUCT Q&A

    Q.Can a John Deere X390 pull this ?

A.If that lawn mower is between 12-14 HP then you will need to purchase drag stakes. If it is over 15 HP the lawn mower will work and nothing additional would be needed.

Q.Can the tiller be pulled by a lawn tractor with a hydro transmission?

A.Thank you for your question. Typically, lawn tractors with hydro transmissions are heavier. As long as the weight is within our recommendations then it would be compatible.
