FEATURES
Powerful Engine
The legendary power, performance and durability of Briggs & Stratton® engines make them a great choice for our Field and Brush Mowers. They are easy to start, comfortable to use, and feature a debris management system that protects the engine from whatever you kick up while you're cutting.
Floating Deck
The deck is suspended from the frame, allowing it to ride up and over high points, minimizing scalping and protecting the drivetrain from damage.
Assembled in the USA
Assembled in the USA using foreign and domestic parts. Ships direct from our Wisconsin factory.
No-Tools Height Adjustment
Choose your mowing height—from 4" to 7.5"—with two easy-turning hand cranks.
Pivoting Blades
Unique swinging blades pivot when hitting an immovable object, to protect the mower's blade, spindle and engine.
Remote Control
A remote control allows you to engage and disengage the mower blade—right from the driver's seat of your towing vehicle.
Chain Debris Guard
Similar to the debris shields used on commercial roadside mowers, this guard stops material from flying forward
Mows Outside Wheelbase
The mowing blade extends outside of the wheels—so you can mow right up next to fences, walls, hedgerows and other obstacles without interference.
Big "Brush Bar"
The 2.75" thick steel frame acts as a brush bar...pushing over saplings, brambles, and other vegetation before feeding it under the deck
44" Mulching Deck
The 44" mowing deck is enclosed on 3 sides, so cut material is chopped and re-chopped, leaving windrows behind.
Outrigger Tow Bar
The 2-piece tow bar allows for offsetting the mowing deck to the left or right...or you can mow right behind your tow vehicle.
Mow up to 1.5 acres per hour!
Mowing times will vary with conditions (density of growth and features of terrain), but hooked up to your ATV the DR 16.5 Tow-Behind can clear as much 1.5 acres per hour — while you ride in comfort!
Mows off everything! Plenty of power. Starts easily, runs smoothly. Had to schedule the purchase and delivery a few weeks out, DR was very accommodating and organized delivery exactly when I needed the mower. We also have a walk behind DR mower that is just as good.

Fix your spring!
DR Field & Brush Mower PRO 44T 17.5 HP
First I’ll say that I was very pleased with how the mower cut. Using a JD 1025R with a belly mower, towing the DR 44T offset gives me twice the cutting width and can get higher on the slope of a driveway.
However, before I could start mowing things didn’t start out so good. While the crate was being unloaded I noticed that one of the knobs for the height adjusters was laying on the pallet, not good. Then, when I was removing the mower from the crate I noticed that the other knob was missing, most likely still in the truck. A few drops of thread locker would have solved a problem that was already noted in other reviews. Called customer service and ordered a replacement knob, and customer service was great.
So, I filled it with oil (oil isn’t supplied with the mower) and started it up and began the clutch break-in process, if this was performed at the factory they could address any problems that might come up. About halfway through the break-in process I noticed a vibration or rattle, I check the blades they’re still spinning as they should be and nothing bad is happening, no smoke,so I resume and finish the break-in. The trouble shooting section in the Manuel says to make sure that the blades are tight, okay I tighten the blades up and start mowing my pasture. I mowed about four acres of tall weeds, some about 4 feet tall, with it and it cut very good.
Now that I have finished mowing and cleaned off the mower, I decide to investigate the vibration that I have noted. I have read in other reviews that the belt tension springs are breaking. Sure enough I remove the belt cover and the spring is in two pieces, but it’s not broke, it’s cut into by the idler pulley. After talking to customer service again, to order a new spring, I learned that the breaking spring problem has been solved by using a bigger spring, well DR Power the larger spring is being cut into because it rides on the idle pulley!
I solved the problem by adding a flat washer on top of the lower locknut to raise the spring and used a 5/16” x 5” J-bolt to attach the spring to the drive belt housing, raising the spring about a half inch above the pulley.
The battery supplied with the mower has push on terminals rather than bolt on as shown on the replacement battery, the wire lengths are made for the bolt on terminals. When mowing brush pulled the terminals off the battery causing the clutch to disengage, why doesn’t the battery have a cover?
When you grease your wheels you will need a full tube of grease because the only grease in the wheels is on the bearings themselves, the axil tube is not grease filled. I found this out because a grease fitting broke off somehow.

Wonderful except front tires
Mowed hayfield that hadn’t been mowed for over a year. Some orchard and rye grass 4-5 feet tall. Multiple saplings of various trees 3-4 feet tall + lots of other stuff. Pulled brush mower with fair size ZTR. It did a fantastic job. Field looks new with green grasses covering field. Only complaint was front tires didn’t seem same quality as rest of mower. Had a flat on one with no puncture in tire but pin hole in tube and plastic washers needed reinforcement also. Everything but front tires was quality and strongly built and it did a great job in field and even around fence edge full of branches and vines and overgrowth. Very satisfied.

Way better than my old Swisher!
I really love the Pro 44T, it replaces a 60” Swisher finish mower, it cuts through the tall grass on our 10 acres with ease - on the first pass. It is well made and I like being able to remotely start and stop the blade.
