Easy to Maneuver!
A sturdy, easy-to-grab tubular handlebar makes maneuvering the PRO 420 around the jobsite (or in and out of storage) a breeze. Just grab the handlebar and tilt it back toward you and roll easily on the big 14" wheels. In working position it is supported by the "kickstand".
Oversized Hoppers
The shredder hopper opening is 19.6" x 13.3", for easily dropping in leaves and prunings by the armload. The chipper hopper (9.4" x 8.6") will accept branches up to 4" in diameter.
Tubular Handlebar for Easy Maneuvering
Easy to grasp (even with gloves on) for smooth maneuvering around the jobsite or in and out of storage. A convenient foot-plate, below the recoil, gives you control as you tilt the machine toward you or "park" it in operating position.
"Kickstand" Provides Stable Operation
Holds the chipper shedder at the correct angle for working and makes it easy to transition between travel and work modes.
DR OHV Engine
The 9.2 HP OHV engine (301cc) has plenty of power for processing hardwood branches and churning through armloads of yard and garden waste. Available with manual- or electric-start.
Pro-Spec™ Chipper Knife
Made of high-carbon/high-chromium forged alloy tool steel, our knives hold an edge longer than those on "bargain" chippers. Still, as with any cutting tool, keeping a sharp edge is important for maintaining peak performance. We recommend keeping an extra on hand so you can minimize downtime.

The chipper portion works better than I had anticipated and I highly recommend. The shredder, however is more difficult to use because of the shielding in the feed chute. Chipper rated a "5" Shredder rated a "2" My previous Chipper Shredder was Troy Built 7 HP which allowed much faster feed to the shredder.

Powerful, well built and easy to use
PRO 420. Read before you buy
Product is of good quality. All heavy gauge steel with good welding. Assembly was quite easy following the instruction; less than 1/2 hour. Recoil start requires good strength but will start with a slow, steady pull. Choke should be in the fully closed position with each start regardless of outside temperature. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE ELECTRIC START MODEL! Remove the output chute screen if you plan to chip or shred wet material such as leaves or flower / garden waste. The screen will clog quite easily causing the material being shredded or chipped to flow back through the hoppers. Dry material shredding or chipping is an absolute dream with particle size of oatmeal. Guide material such as branches into the chipper chute with light pressure. The chipper mechanism will draw material rapidly so be careful not to grasp it too firmly. When feeding larger branches, 3 to 4 inches, grasp the material with enough pressure to allow a gradual feed. While the chipper is very powerful, it is not the same as the large commercial versions. You will stall the engine if feeding the chipper too fast or forceful. This is the second DR chipper / shredded I have purchased the latter being a smaller, 3" version.
Excellent so far
I find the upper feed area not all that useful, but the lower branch chipper is excellent, so i run leaves and brush through that too. The construction is very sturdy. The metal seems first rate. It's a very heavy unit. Easy to start and operate. Totally satisfied so far after a few months of use. I would definitely recommend not going cheaper and stepping up to this class.

Q.Can I get a new battery for the Chipper Shredder? Mine is dead and do you also have a service kit which includes an oil filter, air filter and oil that I can buy to service my Chipper Shredder for the winter. Thanks very much. I love the Chipper Shredder.

Q.Can I chip/shredd bamboo with this model? If not, what model would be recommended for use on bamboo. Basically I need something that will handle 75% hardwood and 25% bamboo. Thanks!!!

Q.Do I use chipper or shredder for green corn stalks? Some are greater than an inch in diameter.
